Sweet sixteen debutante's ball to remember

TORONTO--Having embraced, integrated, and assimilated to cultural melange while trying to preserve our cultural tradition of the Philippine Debut, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony deLeon threw an extravagant Sweet Sixteen Debutante's Ball in honour of their daughter, the reigning PIDC Miss Teen Philippines, Monica-Denise deLeon on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at the elegant Thorncliffe Banquet Hall on 45 Overlea Boulevard. The more than 200 guests were treated to a sumptuous dinner prepared by Chefs Meiji and Afzal, and to a lively entertainment by the debutante; her brother, Mikkel-Brandon and sister, Margot-Denyel, together with her cotillion court, comprised of Francis-Luigi Tungcol, Janelle Barroso, Hyna Kaye Borja, Ylynne Enriquez, Gilliane Manzano, Lian Michelle Reña Pablo, Cassie Peralta, Antonette Sansait, May Sarmiento, Kenneth Abas, RJ Beloso, Joeb Cualing, Brian Jericho Huliganga, Erwin Picardal, Vernileo Turalba, Antonio Raphael San Juan and Andy Wong, with Sherry Lyn Cusipag and Jasmin Sablay .

The highlight of the ball was the father and daughter dance. Then, it was her moment to shine! Serenaded with a selection of 16 beautiful love songs, Monica shared a memorable dance with 16 distinguished gentlemen with each one offering a freshly cut pink beautiful rose. During the celebration, 16 women especially chosen from among the guests, lit up 16 candles to resemble the 16 lights that will serve as guidance for Monica as she makes her transition to the status of full-grown woman. With each candle participant among them: Mrs. Judith Wiles, Monica's Gifted/Enriched Program Teacher from Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School and Ms. Khristine Lamonday, Monica's Grade 7 Teacher from St. Albert Catholic School, were given a chance to say a few words, a congratulatory note and wishes to Monica. Endless applauses, cheers and even laughter began filling up the room. Highly notable performances of the evening were rendered by band groups: The Symphony of Nine, Child's Play and Xplicit Faith; soloists: Joshua Moralejo, Teddy Marasigan, and Sokha Soun, and, most importantly, the outstanding rendition of the Tinikling by PIDC Miss Philippines 2007 1st RU, Khristine-Mai D. Atienza, who is an active member of the Culture Philippines of Ontario.

Indeed, it was a memorable evening of elegance, sophistication and an all around classy celebration for a well-deserved debutante, Monica-Denise deLeon!
